Fractal type

A particular fractal type I like is the pattern found through trees and vains. In this 2d picture the v shapes are ever present the closer you zoom in on the picture.

Concept Idea

Inspired by natures geometric shapes I decided to use 'fractal' as a spatial concept for the record store.
Munich Fractal Arena by Dear Design for Munich. Nice display for their shoes

Suppose Design Office's Makoto Tanijiri and Masaaki Takahashi. Awesome use of pipe branches spread through the interior of the shop

This lead me to think about the song 'Fruit Tree' by Nick Drake and an Opeth's Heritage album cover, that the music artist produce is fruit... like vinyls in this case.

Playing with floor plan possibilities
                                                             Coming up with tree concept
Then I drew this section during a lecture. The store has two stories with the first floor as the chillout listening area underneath the branches. Then have a wooden tree hut style circular stair case up and open elevator (no walls, just hand rail) to the second floor where the consumers may 'pluck' the vinyls of the tree branches. The vinyls would have to be in a plastic case with a hook to hang. Each main branch can represent each musical genre dividing the space into genre sections of the top floor.

Class Paper folding exercise

The zig zag folds could be shelving for vinyls.

                                                   Starting to think about plans
                                                     Shape of listening area?

Record Store

For my new project I have been told to design a retail store for 128 Tory St in Wellington. At the moment I plan to make this a vinyl store with some focus on a listening area in the shop.
